The greatest horse of all time? Check Big Red's numbers: 20 victories in 21 starts and a then-earnings record of nearly $250,000. The chestnut champion bankrolled owner Sam Riddle's farm near Ocean City and sired a Triple Crown winner (War Admiral). Held out of the 1920 Kentucky Derby, which was deemed too rigorous for the young colt, Man o' War then won the Preakness over Upset, thus avenging the only loss of his career. He won the Belmont Stakes by 20 lengths and proved invincible to the end. At 3 years old, he won all 11 starts and smashed eight records. Man o' War won one race by 100 lengths, in world-record time. His final start -- a match race against Sir Barton, the 1919 Triple Crown winner -- ended with a seven-length victory in what The Baltimore Sun called "an exercise gallop" for Big Red.
