Ryan Browning (Salisbury, Calvert Hall), who has served as an assistant at Vermont, Virginia, Goucher and Washington College, has been named assistant coach/recruiting coordinator of the Wagner men's lacrosse team.
Browning becomes the first full-time assistant coach at Wagner since the program was established in 2000.
Browning was a defenseman on the Sea Gulls Division III national championship teams in 2007 and 2008.
At Wagner, Browning will work extensively with the Seahawk defense, while also playing a major role working with the faceoff unit. As Vermont's defensive coach in 2013, he coordinated the nation's 13th nationally man-down defensive unit at 72 percent.
Prior to his one season at Vermont, Browning spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as a volunteer assistant at Virginia, where he worked with the defense and faceoff unit. The Cavaliers ranked 11th scoring defense 8.63 per game 2012 and ranked 15th in faceoffs at 54 percent, which was the Cavaliers' best mark since 2009.
He spent the 2010 season as an assistant at Goucher after beginning his coaching career in 2009 as an assistant at Washington College.
"I am very excited to add Ryan Browning to the Wagner's men's lacrosse program," Vermont head coach Matt Poskay said. "Ryan has extensive coaching experience, particularly on the defensive side, possesses tremendous knowledge of all facets of defensive play and will be a tireless recruiter for us.
"He is steeped in the game of lacrosse, having lived and worked in the Baltimore, Md., area so long, and has played and coached under some terrific minds," Poskay added. "Ryan is going to play a significant role as we continue to build our program."
A resident of Cockeysville, Browning earned a history degree from Salisbury in 2008. In addition to his coaching duties at Wagner, Browning will be pursuing a Master's of Business Administration.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
