Throughout his life, Massachusetts-born businessman and philanthropist Enoch Pratt (1801-1896) gave generously to his adopted city. Today, his name remains prominent, attached to one of Baltimore's busiest thoroughfares (Pratt Street, which skirts the Inner Harbor), its public library (to which he donated more than $800,000, to ensure it remained free to the public) and Baltimore County's Sheppard Pratt Health System. These walking sticks, used by Pratt, are in the collection of the Enoch Pratt Free Library.
