Dropkick Murphys, The Gaslight Anthem to headline September 'Shindig'

Dropkick Murphys, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Gaslight Anthem and more will perform at Carroll Park in Pigtown on Sept. 14 for the debut of The Shindig, an all-rock music festival, organizer Paul Manna announced today. Tickets go on sale Friday.

Other artists scheduled to perform include Clutch, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reverend Horton Heat, The Hold Steady, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Larry and His Flask, The Glenmont Popes and Bad Seed Rising. There will be two stages but no sets will overlap. There will be food and beverage vendors, and also a Ripley's Believe It or Not side stage featuring "rare talent and oddities."

Manna said the Pigtown park was an ideal location.

"I love the feel of a park with grass rather than concrete slab, which most larger festivals have nowadays," Manna said. "Carrol Park made great sense. They're in the middle of revitalizing historic Pigtown."

Manna was also involved in last year's inaugural Charm City Music Festival, which was headlined by Weezer. He says there will not be a Charm City Music Festival this year, but also points out The Shindig should not be considered a replacement.

"It's a new beginning," Manna said. "I'm not saying Charm City Music Festival can't return one day, but The Shindig is what we're focused on now."

Gates will open at noon. The concert will run from 1 to 11 p.m. General admission tickets are $48.50 until July 17, and $53.50 after that date. VIP tickets (which include a parking space, air-conditioned bathrooms, a T-shirt and more) will be available for $125.
