Best game

There were plenty of great games played there over those 17 seasons, including some upsets of top-ranked teams that help give Cole a reputations as one of the toughest home courts in the country. I was there to watch Walt Williams lead the probation-hampered Terps to a win over No. 10 North Carolina in 1991-92. I wasn't there when Maryland blew a 10-point lead in a matter of seconds to Duke in 2001. (Most of the Sun's sports staff was in Tampa covering the Ravens' win in the Super Bowl the next day.) But the game that has stayed with me through the years came during Gary Williams' first season. While he still had some talent left over from Wade's time in College Park -- most notably Walt Williams and Jerrod Mustaf -- there was no chance that the Terps should have stayed with then-No. 4 Duke, taking the Blue Devils into overtime before losing in a shootout, 114-111. How I made my plane that night to Michigan for another assignment I still don't know.
