College Grads

Catonsville,MD--5/8/14-  Dalton Hughes is a chemical and biochemical engineering major and participant in the nationally prestigious Meyerhoff Scholars Program. In addition to completing sophisticated lab research throughout his time at UMBC, he has played a leadership role in the UMBC Engineers without Borders effort to establish a clean water supply for a community in Isongo, Kenya. This innovative project includes a partnership with a university in Kenya, engagement with local community members, and participation from students across disciplines, including the arts and humanities, which are essential to the public health and education aspect of the work. Dalton has spoken about his UMBC experience at events such as the recent U.S. News STEM Solutions conference (full video now online). He will pursue an MD/PhD at Duke University this fall.
