The Buckeyes lost starter Greg Dutton (Calvert Hall) to injury for the year after a loss to Denver. "Scott had not played in a game or scrimmage all year and had structured his academics so that he could redshirt and play next year," said coach Nick Myers. "He came to me and said, 'Coach, the team needs me, and the time is now.' There was no hesitation." Spencer is the embodiment of a true student-athlete. He is a molecular genetics major who plans to attend medical school when he is done getting pelted with rubber. "Scott is one of the most intelligent young men I have ever coached and an incredible teammate," said Myers. Ohio State has won four straight and is 5-1 with Spencer between the pipes. His save percentage (.581) is good for seventh-best in the country, though he hasn't played enough to rank on the NCAA's official list. The Buckeyes are down six starters because of injuries but not out of the fight for the ECAC automatic qualifier.
