Jack Kelly, goalie, Brown

Goalie The goalie position is one of the easier transitions for freshmen. Yes, the shots are faster and more accurate. The significant challenge occurs in the direction of the defense and clearing the ball. The position equates to playing safety in football — you can survive on instincts, but true mastery comes with comprehension of schemes. Kelly started in high school for just one year, sitting behind Duke's Kyle Turri, before winning a state title for West Islip (N.Y.). "From the first practices in the fall, Jack has been commanding the defense, which is remarkable for a freshman," coach Lars Tiffany said. "He's really strong in the clearing game."
