For Rebecca Pearce, leading the state's health insurance exchange has significance. "It's not very often you get a chance to change history," she says. "We're going to fundamentally change the way health care is delivered in the state." That is, as it sounds, not a simple process. Pearce has executed decisions shaping the insurance marketplace, a key piece of federal reforms dubbed Obamacare. But her true test awaits: The exchange opens for business Oct. 1, enrolling thousands of the state's 800,000 uninsured residents for coverage starting in 2014. As Pearce puts it: "We've built the present, wrapped it, and now we're trying to put the bow on it."
