At the First Battle of Manassas, Va., or First Bull Run as it was called in the North, Lt. Col. J.E.B. Stuart's 1st Virginia Cavalry charges the 11th New York Fire Zouaves, who were defending an artillery position on Henry House Hill. The attack was part of the increasing pressure on the right flank of the Union army that finally led to a federal retreat that turned into a rout in the early days of the Civil War on July 21, 1861.
