Ami Dang: Puppets

"When I was 9 years old, my family took a trip to India. We were in Rajasthan, which is a northwest region in India -- it's not the region that my family is from, but it's the most desert state in India. Those romantic images of camels and Sheikhs that people associate with India -- it proliferated that kind of vision. These puppets are Rajasthani puppets. When I was 9, we went to Rajasthan. And they were like, 'Oh, these puppets! Do you want them?' So I've had them for a long time. I used to try and play with them but all the strings are so intertwined, it's hard. I'd have to re-string them. I've thought about using them in a video."
