Scene & Heard: Taste for Life

You could say it was a concert of tastes that brought a couple of hundred people to the Modell Center for the Performing Arts at the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLCUL000176" title="Lyric Opera of Baltimore" href="/topic/entertainment/music/lyric-opera-of-baltimore-PLCUL000176.topic">Lyric Opera House</a>. Throughout the lobby and mezzanine, local chefs offered creations at food stations to go with a variety of wines offered by a several local wine shops for the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORNPR000082" title="American Cancer Society" href="/topic/health/health-organizations/american-cancer-society-ORNPR000082.topic">American Cancer Society</a>'s Taste for Life event.<br>

"There's no better way of celebrating anything than marrying food and wine," said Jim Oremland, event chair, there with his wife, Marsha Oremland, event committee member.<br>

"I'm supporting the cause," said Rhonda Overby, Camera Ready president, as she munched on veggies and crab dip. Her husband, Joe Haskins, Harbor Bank of Maryland chairman/CEO, browsed the food and wine stations, along with Cecil Flamer, event committee member, and his wife, Sheryl Flamer, community volunteer.<br>

Gloria Crockett, American Cancer Society state vice president, was relishing the scene.<br>
<br>
"I like that everybody's out here, having a good time. It's giving back to a nonprofit, but not feeling like it," she said.<br>
