John L. Phillips, class of 1972:

Born April 15, 1951 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, but considers Scottsdale, Arizona to be his hometown. received a B.S. degree in mathematics from the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000149" title="United States Naval Academy" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/united-states-naval-academy-OREDU0000149.topic">U.S. Naval Academy</a> in 1972; an M.S. in aeronautical systems from the University of West Florida in 1974; and an M.S. and Ph.D. in geophysics and space physics from UCLA in 1984 and 1987, respectively. Phillips has logged over 203 days in space during three flights.
