1996: 88-74, 2nd (wild card)

Led by Brady Anderson's 50 home runs, the Orioles set a record for most homers by a team in a season (257) and earned their first wild-card berth in Davey Johnson's first season as manager and Pat Gillick's first as GM. After beating the Indians in four games in the ALDS, the Orioles dropped the ALCS to the Yankees in five. That series is best remembered for the Jeffrey Maier-aided home run Derek Jeter hit in Game 1. Another lowlight of that season was September incident in which second baseman Roberto Alomar spat at umpire John Hirschbeck. It was also the final season for popular broadcaster Jon Miller, who was not retained.
