The prima donnas of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo aren't merely men in tights. They're also men in tutus and tiaras, with chest and armpit hair on ample display.
The Trocks -- as they are known --might be a parody troupe, but the dancers bring to their slapstick sequences an impressive technical mastery and deep knowledge of the traditons of the dance form they are satirizing.
Though the Trocks have been performing around the nation since 1974, their two shows at the Kennedy Center in October represent a rare stop in the nation's capital. The program will include "Paquita" and "Go for Barrocco" -- send-ups respectively of the work of choreographers Marius Petipa and George Balanchine -- and their excerpt from Act II of "Swan Lake" is not to be missed. --Mary Carole McCauley
