Sunday: Baltimore Farmer's Market & Lighthouse Tofu

Sunday mornings are all about that weekly dose of wholesome food -- the Baltimore Farmers' Market (pictured) under the JFX. By the time I get there, the line for Zeke's is always out of control, so I skip coffee and head straight for the phenomenal tamales. Served up from a nameless stall on the Holliday Street side of the market, they’re only $3.50 each. Just one is a delicious and filling breakfast, especially when it's topped with pico de gallo and the mysterious, mouth-watering sauces that come out of the tamale ladies' squeeze bottles. On Sunday, it's perfectly appropriate to finish off breakfast with a little dessert and since you’re at the market, grab a $3 bag of fresh doughnuts from Migue's Magnificent Donuts. They're hot, fried and you get to add your own sugar or chocolate. Possibly the best breakfast dessert ever. Sunday afternoons are usually pretty lazy, which makes them a great time to pile into the car and go on a suburban food trek, like to Korea, by way of Ellicott City. Lighthouse Tofu BBQ is inexpensive, authentic and all kinds of exotic -- doesn't soon doo boo (tofu stew flavored with beef, seafood or kimchi, $7.50) sound like an exciting way to close out the weekend? And then? You rest that stomach, and think about what’s for breakfast on Monday. Lighthouse Tofu BBQ is at 9380 Baltimore National Pike, Ste 105 in Ellicott City. Call 410-461-6560.
