After a rough start, the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied to finish with the fourth-best record (92-70) in the National League, winning the NL West. They lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Championship Series.

Mattingly finished second for National League Manager of the Year in the balloting that was announced Nov. 12, earning 68 total points (two first-place votes, 17 second-place votes, seven third-place votes).
