Once upon a time there was a magical land known as Old Lyme, in which delightful little forest creatures dwelled. They were chased from their homes by the noise and machines of the modern age, but found solace in the quiet lawns and artsy environs of the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme.
Every autumn, dozens of faeries gather outside the museum in tiny, well-appointed domiciles, with each of these faerie homecomings bearing its own special theme. This year, from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1, you can visit “Whimsical Kingdoms — The Castles, Towers and Palaces of Fiction’s Greatest Princes and Princesses (and perhaps a few Sorcerers and Witches).”
Many of the denizens are anonymous, but you will also see some major celebrities, such as Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood and Saint-Exupery’s Little Prince. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, $13 for students and $5 for members, and includes the outdoor Wee Faerie Village as well as exhibits in the Florence Griswold House and the Krieble Gallery.
