Wherever you travel in Connecticut this summer, there will be a new museum exhibit to strike the fancy.

In the southwest corner, the Bruce Museum will show photography that studies motion. In the southeast, the Lyman Allyn salutes the civil rights era and LGBT artists. In the heart of the state, the Wadsworth Atheneum will continue its long-running MATRIX series. Yale will show 16th-century French art and South American textiles. Mattatuck in Waterbury will have an exciting summer, opening seven exhibits on the same day.

Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, 600 Main St. in Hartford, will show “Vanessa German / MATRIX 174: i come to do a violence to the lie,” an exhibit of sculptures inspired by traditional African “Nkisi” power figures, from June 9 to Sept. 4. “The Human Touch,” an exhibit of work owned by RBC Wealth Management, will be June 25 to Sept. 25. thewadsworth.org.

At Yale: Summer started early at Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel St. in New Haven, which two days ago opened “Le Gout du Prince: Art and Prestige in Sixteenth-Century France,” which will be on the walls until Aug. 28, and “Weaving and the Social World: 3,000 Years of Ancient Andean Textiles,” up through Sept. 18. artgallery.yale.edu. Yale Center for British Art, 1080 Chapel St. in New Haven, will present “‘The Poet of Them All’: William Shakespeare and Miniature Designer Bindings” from June 16 to Aug. 21. Britishart.yale.edu.

Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main St. in Waterbury, will unveil seven exhibits June 12: “Tea Day 1931: The Art Community at Old Lyme,” with work by William Chadwick, Frank Dumond, Lydia Longacre and Bessie Potter Vonnoh; “Sea and Stone: The Thimble Islands,” paintings by Arthur Yanoff; “Elizabeth MacDonald: Nature’s Patina,” which is ceramic tile bas-relief sculptures in the garden; “Renee Iacone: The Hand of the Maker Speaks to Us,” ceramic, nature-inspired sculptures inside and outside the museum; “James Daugherty: Champion of Color,” paintings by the American modernist; “Faith Stewart-Gordon: Life’s Joys,” of images of New York and Connecticut; and a historical exhibit about local girl Rosalind Russell, entitled “What a Woman!” mattatuckmuseum.org.

Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams St. in New London, will present “For All the World to See: Visual Culture and The Struggle for Civil Rights” from June 16 to Aug. 11. “The Artist WithIN,” an exhibit of work by local LGBTQ artists, will be up from June 10 to July 24. lymanallyn.org.

Bruce Museum: “Science and Motion: The Photographic Studies of Eadweard Muybridge, Berenice Abbott and Harold Edgerton” is the big summer show at Bruce Museum, One Museum Drive in Greenwich, which will study the experiments in motion conducted by the three legendary photographers from July 16 to Oct. 16. brucemuseum.org
