Fittingly, the “Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland” exhibition at the Wadsworth Atheneum isn’t just about one main attraction. There are sideshows.

This weekend, the museum not only brings in an actual present-day Coney Island Circus Sideshow — presented by Coney Island USA, and featuring a bed of nails, a sword swallower and a Burmese python — Friday, Feb. 27, at 5 p.m., but also a daylong Coney Island symposium titled “An Intersection of Art & Identity,” Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., that features several panel discussions plus “continental breakfast and lunch.”

You can purchase tickets to the two events separately (the sideshow is $35, $25 for Wadsworth members, $15 students; the symposium is $30, $25 members, $15 students) or get a “combo ticket” for both: $45, $35 members, $20 students. The Atheneum is at 600 Main St., Hartford. Information: 860-838-4076, thewadsworth.org.
