Chris Huestis has moved his photography studio and art gallery, PhotoSynthesis, from Manchester to East Hartford, but his heart is still in Manchester, his hometown. On Saturday, Sept. 16, he is the host of a free happening: the Silk City Arts & Music Festival.

The event, partially funded by a grant from the town, will run from 2 to 8 p.m. at Purnell Place, the parking lot behind the MCC on Main art gallery on Main Street.

Dozens of local artists, artisans and crafts people will show and sell their work, families can enjoy interactive activities and food trucks and a beer tent from Firefly Hollow Brewing in Bristol will sell refreshments.

Radio 104.1 WMRQ will broadcast live, and bands include the roots-reggae combo Amandla Band, electronic chamber-pop quartet Olive Tiger, folk-punk quartet Pat Stone & Dirty Boots and multigenre band Rhythmic Circus. A community drum circle will be held.

The event is hosted by and is a fundraiser for Art Füd, a nonprofit organization that promotes the work of local artists and raises money for food pantries and other organizations for the needy. Details about the fest: artfud.org.
