A sculpture by the late William Kent, "Shell Bean #14," has been placed in the town hall in Durham, where he lived until his death in 2012. The 7-foot-tall wood sculpture is on the 3rd floor landing. "It's as if the space was sitting here all along waiting for Bill," said Alan Bisbort, one of the trustees of the William Kent Charitable Foundation. "Though he was an artist with a world-class reputation, it was important to Bill to be known for his art by his neighbors. If he were here, he'd probably say seeing his sculpture in town hall meant as much to him as seeing one of his works at the Smithsonian or the gallery at Yale University."
