Transgender activist Kate Bornstein gained national attention as a performance artist, including performances at Real Art Ways, in the early 1990s. She returns there Saturday, Jan. 30, to give a 7:30 p.m. talk on “Trans, Beyond the Tipping Point.”

Bornstein is now an icon of transgender awareness and has written several books (including “My New Gender Workbook” and the memoir “A Queer and Pleasant Danger”), taught and lectured worldwide and continues to inspire and enlighten.

Her talk, co-sponsored by the Mark Twain House and Museum, concerns “the changing language of transgender identity in a new social landscape of trans awareness.”

Real Art Ways is at 56 Arbor St., Hartford. Tickets are $12, $7 for RAW or Mark Twain House members. 860-232-1006 and realartways.org.
