This is the year that Tommy’s Tattoo Convention turns five. The gathering of inksters is all grown up, or at least it’s getting nicely seasoned.

The three-day festival is more than just a showcase for artists and fans of the decorative skin-art tradition. There will be artists and tattoo celebrities from all over the world, in addition to contests, beauty pageants, seminars, live music, demonstrations, performances by tattoo-centric illusionists, magicians and contortionists.

There will also be a “Back To the Future” car with a Michael J. Fox lookalike (which is kind of weird, but novel), and a Batmobile, for major photo opps.

If you’re a tattoo fanatic, this is the place to mingle with like-minded ink fiends. If you’re an artist, there are few better places to shop for ideas and inspiration and to talk equipment with other tattooists. Expect a visually engaging weekend of fun and festivities with plenty of exposed flesh.

Tommy’s Tattoo Convention is at the Connectictu Convention Center, 100 Columbus Blvd., Hartford on Oct. 14 to 16. Tickets range from $15 to $55, depending on the package. tommystattooconvention.com
