Tommy Tune walks among the gods. He’s that tall. And he dances so well.

I’ve watched Tommy Tune pace the back of theater on opening night of a show he worked on. I’ve seen him command the stage in musicals that simply would not have succeeded without his presence. I’ve swooned at his graceful terpsichore. He’s divine.

His achievements are legendary. He’s done classic musicals (the 2015 “Encores” revival of “Lady, Be Good”), new shows (he directed the hit off-Broadway production of Caryl Churchill’s “Cloud 9” in 1979) and combos of both (starring in the rewritten Gershwin musical “My One and Only” and directing the neo-nostalgic “Will Rogers Follies”). He appeared in the Vegas show “EFX” and the Ken Russell film of “The Boyfriend.” He’s suave and debonair and rocks a three-piece suit.

Other than the ebullient national tour of “Bye Bye Birdie” that visited New Havens’s Shubert in 1992, Tune’s appearances in Connecticut over the past few decades have been theater concerts and cabaret shows. The content can change, but the title has usually been “Tommy Tune, Tonight!,” and it has become an autobiographical journey through a fascinating and wide-ranging career That includes anecdotes about Tune’s fellow musical theater legends Chita Rivera, Barbra Streisand, Ann Reinking, Gwen Verdon and tap-dancer “Honi” Coles.

“Tommy Tune, Tonight!” comes to the Fox Theater, at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Foxwoods Resort Casino, 350 Trolley Line Blvd., Mashantucket. Tickets are $20 and $30. 800-FOXWOODS, foxwoods.com.
