‘Complete Works of William Shakespeare’ At Playhouse On Park

The works of William Shakespeare have been around for about 500 years. “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged),” a popular multistyled comic romp through those works, has been around for 30 years.

The comic compendium, created and originally performed by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, has now been revised as well as abridged. Singer and Winfield reworked it in 2010, adding in new bits that had come from some of the many touring and regional productions of the show.

Playhouse on Park has its own history with the piece. It was presented during the theater’s first season, in January 2010. Two of the cast members from that production, Rich Hollman and Playhouse on Park co-founder/co-artistic director Sean Harris, are returning for this one, alongside Hannah Cheek. Also returning from the previous Playhouse production: director Tom Ridgely.

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) — Revised Edition” by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Borgeson, romps from June 28 through July 30 at Playhouse on Park, 244 Park Road, West Hartford. Performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. $25 to $40, $17.50 for previews (June 28 and 29). 860-523-5900, playhouseonpark.org.

Foxwoods Resort Casino continues to lure major theater-circus acts to its Fox Theater.

“Nik Wallenda’s Zirkus” stars the great-great-great-great-grandson of the founders of the legendary Great Wallendas aerialist act. Nik uses the German word for “circus” to pay tribute to his family high-wire heritage. He’s also reviving a routine, The Great Pyramid, which the Wallendas stopped doing 65 years ago when two members of the troupe died and another was paralyzed while attempting it. The trick involves seven people balancing upon each other, plus a chair. Nik Wallenda was part of the pyramid’s re-creation in 1998 and it is now a regular part of the act, performing it regularly without a safety net.

“Nik Wallenda’s Zirkus” has 10 performances: June 28 and 29 at 6:30 and 9 p.m.; June 30 at 6 and 9:30 p.m.; July 1 at 4 and 8 p.m. and July 2 at 2 and 7 p.m. 350 Trolley Line Blvd., Mashantucket. Tickets are $15 and $25. 800-FOXWOODS, foxwoods.com.
