Combining live actors and puppets, the University of Connecticut’s puppet arts program and Connecticut Repertory Theatre will present the world premiere adaptation of Christina Rossetti’s atmospheric narrative poem “Goblin Market.”
The stage adaptation by Penny Benson, an MFA puppet arts candidate, of Christina Rossetti’s 1862 poem will run March 27 to April 6 in the Studio Theater at the UConn campus in Storrs.
“The original poem was bold in its portrayal of women’s power and sexuality given the strictures of Victorian social norms,” according to the theater’s announcement.
The show’s director is Margarita Blush, a former student of the internationally known puppeteer Nikolina Georgieva.
