Every few decades, Peter Pan is reworked for a new generation. J.M. Barrie created the boy who won’t grow up back in the depths of World War I. Mary Martin gave the character a chipper American quality. Disney brought color and magic. “Hook” had the anarchic spirit of Robin Williams.

“Peter and the Starcatcher,” based on the novel by famed writers Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which added several new chapters to the Pan mythology, has flitted from off-Broadway to Broadway, back to off-Broadway, out on tour and now on a new revised tour. This new jag was rehearsed and built at the Shubert in New Haven, which is premiering the changes Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 29 through Feb. 1, at 247 College St., New Haven. Tickets are $15 to $110. Performances are Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. Information: 203-562-566 and shubert.com.
