New Year’s Eve 2016 is the night to block the events of this long year and to put aside thoughts of the year ahead, if just for one night. All events Dec. 31 unless otherwise noted.

First Night Hartford: This alcohol-free, family-friendly celebration rings in the new year through the arts, with events held at venues such in Bushnell Park, City Hall, the Old State House, Wadsworth Atheneum, Center Church and more. The fireworks are at 6 p.m. and midnight in the park. Wristband and buttons, sold at most of the venues, are $12 adults, $3 ages 3 to 15. More info here.

Mohegan Sun’s Party into the New Year: starting at 10:30 p.m. in the Uncas Ballroom. Dancing andA music by DJ Sinatra and Big Ben, an open bar, champagne toast at midnight and a complimentary breakfast buffet at 1 a.m. Tickets start at $100; $150 at the door. The party in the ballroom is 21-plus only, but the Shops at Mohegan Sun host an all-ages Countdown Party from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. with music by DJae Melee and a countdown topped with a pyrotechnic display. Hats, horns tiaras available while supplies last at the summer and winter coat check, sky valet and other entrances starting at 5 p.m.

And if you want to end the year with a laugh, Jay Leno plays the Mohegan Sun Arena at 8 p.m.. Tickets start at $39. mohegansun.com.
