Hartford Residents Asked To Choose 'Paint The City' Murals

Hartford residents are being asked to help Hartford Decide$ choose which murals should be painted in 14 different Neighborhood Revitalization Zones in the city.

Municipal capital improvement funds will finance the murals that will be created in the Asylum Hill, Blue Hills, Clay Arsenal, Sheldon/Charter Oak, Frog Hollow, Maple Avenue, Northeast, Parkville, South Downtown, Southend, South Green, South West/Behind the Rocks, Upper Albany and West End neighborhoods.

The Paint the City Implementation Team is headed by artist Jason Farquharson, a Hartford resident.

About 100 artists submitted proposals. Thirty artists made the cut. Now the public must vote on the winning designs.

All online voting must be completed by 10 p.m. on Oct. 10. In-person voting will take place on Oct. 7 from noon to 5 p.m. at Hartford Public Library, 500 Main St. To see the proposed designs and to vote, visit goo.gl/forms/oarHbYfpNGIa5MO22 or hartforddecides.org.

Non-Hartford residents who want to see the mural options can see them here.

Results will be announced the following week on hartforddecides.org, and the painting schedule is yet to be determined. For details on the designs and the project, email hart.paint.city@gmail.com or call 203-516-0677.
