The International Festival of Arts & Ideas has always boasted that the vast majority of its offerings are free. This year, that includes:
>>Headline concerts on New Haven Green by George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic (June 11), Lila Downs (June 12), 47Soul and M.A.K.U. Soundsystem (June 18) and Red Baraat (June 19). Opening acts at 5:30 p.m. include Hartford Hot Several Brass Band (June 11), Yesenia Rubio with Infusion Evolution (June 12), The Afro-Semitic Experience (June 18), St. Luke’s Steel Band (June 19) and Mary McBride (June 25).
>>A concluding concert/performance event on the Green involving the circus troupe Cirque Mechanics and New Haven Symphony Orchestra June 25.
>>Weekday concerts Tuesdays through Fridays at noon on the Green, by the likes of Hiroya Tsukamoto (world music, June 14), Stanley Maxwell (jazz, June 15) and Drunken Logic (folk/punk, June 22), to name a few.
>>“Family Series” performances Tuesdays through Friday at 1:15 p.m. on the Green with, among others, Tanglewood Marionettes (June 15), Beethoven’s Wig (June 22) and NYChillharmonic (June 23).
>>Hands-on “Do.Make.Create” events for children and families on the Green, from printmaking June 11 to the return of the urban-planning-with-cardboard development project Box City on June 25. The events are on the festival’s Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5:30 p.m.
>>All five screenings in the “Revealing Scams, Lies, Trickery and Deceit” festival of documentaries by Alex Gibney June 10 to 12, plus two public discussions with Gibney.
>>The entire slate of nearly 20 “Ideas” lectures and symposia, including three Latin American writers discussing “Narratives of Place and Displacement” June 11; “The Food Lab — Better Home Cooking Through Science” author J. Knji Lopez-Alt June 18; a panel on “Millennials and the Presidential Election” June 19 moderated by the head of Rock the Vote; a talk on “Alzheimer’s Aging and the Arts” that includes a performance by Chinese puppeteer Maleonn Ma June 23; and many of the festival’s big-ticket performers engaging in conversations about their work.
>>Art/sound explorations at Artspace and Yale’s Holcombe Green galleries.
>>The annual Youth Summit (June 10 to 12) or workshops and discussions regarding contemporary social issues, including a street-party-like “Youth in Action” celebration June 12 on the Green.
>>Four and a half hours of special African-American-themed activities “Celebrating Juneteenth” (June 19) at the Stetson Branch Library.
>>Walking tours of local farms, gardens and other areas.
>>Bike tours geared to local history, environmental issues and food.
>>Gallery talks and tours at the Yale Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art.
