Eight extra performances have been added to the run of the new musical “Cyrano” at Godspeed Musicals’ Norma Terris Theatre in Chester.

The show, which opens Aug. 3 and was originally scheduled to close on Sept. 2, has now been extended through Sept. 9. The added performances are Sept. 5 at 2 and 7 p.m., Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 7 at 8 p.m., Sept. 8 at 3 and 8 p.m. and Sept. 9 at 2 and 6:30 p.m.

When announcing the extension, the Goodspeed stated that no other extensions are likely: “This production must close on Sept. 9.”

“Cyrano” will star Peter Dinklage, of “Game of Thrones” and “The Station Agent,” in the title role of a great swordsman who is unable to confess his love to Roxanne (played by film actress Haley Bennett). He ends up writing love poems that are recited to Roxanne by another man who is in love with her, Christian (played Blake Jenner from TV’s “Glee”).

“Cyrano” will be directed by Dinklage’s wife Erica Schmidt, an accomplished director who also wrote the musical’s book (adapted from the classic 1897 drama “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand). The songs and score were written by three members of the internationally popular rock band The National: Aaron Dessner Bryce Dessner and Matt Berninger, plus lyricist Carin Besser.

“Cyrano” ” has been extremely popular since first announced. The show set single-day sales records at the Goodspeed when tickets went on sale in May, nearly doubling the previous record. Tickets available at goodspeed.org/

The Norma Terris Theatre is a 200-seat venue where Goodspeed Musicals workshops brand new musicals. Shows at the Norma Terris are not open to be reviewed by critics as they are considered works in progress. A number of sites which premiered at the Norma Terris have gone on to Broadway or off Broadway, including “All Shook Up” and “By Jeeves.”
