Acrobatic 'Traces' Part Of Arts, Ideas

The Hartford Courant

They jump, they tumble, they climb on poles like monkeys on crack. They're the young, athletic and sexy performers in "Traces," from the hip Canadian cirque group Les 7 Doigts de la Main (Seven Fingers). The show was an off-Broadway hit in 2011 in a run that lasted more than a year. It then toured the country, playing Hartford's Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts several years ago.

If the name Les 7 Doigts rings a bell, it may be because its the same folks who created the extraordinary cirque acts that make so distintive the Tony Award-winning revival of "Pippin" currently on Broadway.

Last year the group presented "Sequence 8" at New Haven's International Festival of Arts & Ideas. This year it returns to the festival with "Traces," which combines acrobatic twists and turns with street elements such as skateboarding and basketball and cool music.

The festival run, featuring members of both the off-Broadway and touring company, begins Tuesday, June 24, at 8 p.m. at the University Theatre in downtown New Haven. Other performances are Wednesday to Friday, June 25 to 27, at 8 p.m.; and Saturday, June 28, at 1 and 5 p.m. Tickets $35 to $65. Information:
