When is it exactly that the sun will come out? Oh, yeah, tomorrow. The latest national tour of the indomitable comic-strip musical “Annie” comes to the Shubert Theatre, 247 College St., New Haven, March 29 through April 3.

“Annie” had a full-scale Broadway overhaul in 2012, which consciously tried to bring a much different, grittier style to the show. Then there was last year’s modernized movie version with Jamie Foxx as Daddy Warbucks. The current road show, however, retains the classic “Annie” feel, the same flaming-haired, wholesome freshness it had when the show first premiered at the Goodspeed Opera House in 1976. In fact, it has the same director, Martin Charnin (who also wrote the show’s lyrics).

The tour stars Heidi Gray as Annie (pictured), with Lynn Andrews as Miss Hannigan and Gilgamesh Taggetts of Warbucks. The choreography is by Liza Gennaro, who’s worked at Goodspeed and Hartford Stage and taught at Yale.

Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 7p.m., Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 to $160. Information: 562-5666, shubert.com.
