PENNY A. HAHN
D.O.B.: 1/5/1961
Education: Graduated Parkland – top 2%; Cosmetology Manager’s License
Occupation: Construction Company Administrator; Assistant volleyball coach – Catasauqua
Qualifications: My administration position, involvement in my children’s education, and coaching demonstrate my ability to work cooperatively with others as well as in stressful positions. My experience affords me insightful knowledge that can benefit the District.
Issues statement: The proposed building project is the major issue in the Catasauqua School District. I believe quality education is first and foremost. Teachers and curriculum educate our children – not buildings. In recent years, many courses and new books were eliminated to save money. Those classes should be reinstated, appropriate text should be purchased, and more challenging classes added to “raise the bar” of educational excellence. Let’s spend money on true education, and re-evaluate the construction project.

D.O.B.: 2/22/1946
Education: 3 yrs. college
Occupation: Retired
Qualifications: Old enough to have acquired insight, always applying a practical and if necessary, a frugal approach to any problem.
Issues statement: Whether we need a new high school and should it be built in another town. The available land adjacent to the current high should be utilized if we indeed need more classrooms. Central Catholic & William Allen High Schools have been used for last 60, 70, or 80 yrs. because of renovations and upgrades.

D.O.B.: 9/10/59
Education: Easton Area High School Class of ’77 & Eastern Northampton County Vocational-Technical School. Certificates, PA Dept. of Health, PA Fire & Sheriffs’ Adademies, Allentown Police Academy.
Occupation: 19-year Easton Firefighter
Qualifications: Parent of two children attending Easton School. Part-time County Sheriff’s Department & Forks Police Officer, Volunteer with Easton Emergency Squad 1979-89.
Response: We must hold the line on tax increases and insure that tax dollars go to academics first. As a retired teacher my opponent will bring a skewed agenda to the school board when contract talks occur, whereas my only agenda is what is best for our children’s future, with no special ax to grind and no special interests to defend.

ALBERT CAPECCI
D.O.B.: 12/24/41
Education: Graduate EAHS, Bloomsburg UniversityOccupation: Legislative assistant for State Representative Richard Grucela
Qualifications: Taught Government & Economics (EAHS) - 32 years./ Former co-owner of 2 local businesses; Veteran, U.S. Navy. My years of educational & business experience will enable me to be a strong, effective voice for the people of the EASD.
Response: There are several major issues. First, we want to be sure that our schools are safe and secure. The district must come to grips with the growth of the student population to maximize the efficient use of buildings. Additionally, our curriculum should meet the highest possible standards. Finally, we need to support tax reform efforts that alleviate the heavy reliance on the local property tax which is extremely unfair to our senior citizens.

JOHN A. MARINO
D.O.B.: 10/8/1960
Education: Oral Roberts University 4 years. Palmer College of Chiropractic - 4 yrs.
Occupation: Chiropractor
Qualifications: Community Awareness Lectures at various schools/businesses in the Lehigh Valley. Member - Nazareth Chamber, Masonic Temple, Bath. Response: Providing our kids with the best education and opportunities in a healthy and safe learning environment is our core purpose. The rapid growth of our community and influx of newcomers to our schools at a price we can afford, is probably the biggest issue at hand. With growth comes the problem of its burden on the taxpayers. We need to keep spending within our means, control the pace of further development, improve public awareness to the effects development has on taxes as a whole, and create new steady streams of revenue in addition to impact fees to minimize the increase in school taxes.

Served as Board President, Dec. 1998 thru 1999.
Response: My number one concern will always be the safety and welfare of the children of our community. We all know the importance of academics, however, we are not preparing our students with important values, self-respect, respect of others, ethics and most importantly tolerance. These are just as important as math, science and reading. There is also a major concern in Nazareth over the high taxes. There is a lot of wasteful spending that must be brought under control.

D.O.B: 4/25/42
Education: Graduate of Phillipsburg High School Class of 1962, Warren county Community College diploma in Electronics 1965.
Occupation: Certified Control Systems Technician
Qualifications: Having began as an electronic technician, I now work for Roche Vitamins, Inc. maintaining and installing the electronic control systems that sense and control the mechanical and chemical processes.
Response: In Nazareth Area School District budget will be a major concern, and will be for several years. Debts incurred in our building programs make the budget difficult to balance yet we cannot continue to increase taxes. I feel that cuts in staff would decrease the quality of education. Equipment and material expenditures should be the first areas to come under scrutiny but all spending will have to be looked at carefully.
ERNEST J. HAHN
D.O.B: 11/25/52
Education: Graduate of Churchman Business College, Easton PA; graduate of Nazareth Area High School.Occupation: Operations Manager for New England Freight Inc.
Qualifications: Have a A.S. in Business Admin. and Higher Acctg.; Active official in softball, baseball, and basketball. Registered official PIAA softball and basketball. Worked with all ages in all three sports.Response: One of the major issues I see is that things are being done or proposed by the School Board and 90% of the tax payers in the school district don't even know anything about what is being proposed or that has been approved. Everyone talks about the problems but people need to get involved and make an attempt to attend meetings so that everyone's opinion or feelings are heard. Also, we at Nazareth have too many school officials saying yes to everything.

Qualifications: A passion for the education process, desire to promote the welfare of our children, an open mind to new ideas.
Response: I would like to see Northampton Area School District become one of the premier schools in PA. I would like our graduates to be considered the ‘cream of the crop’ as they enter college. To raise the pride of our students in their school and surrounding communities making them good leaders and willing participants to give back to their neighborhoods.

Qualifications: Experienced procedural performance evaluator, documentation development and audit reporting.
Response: Citizens, students and teachers of the Northampton Area School District are being held hostage by the present school board. This board is determined to move the Senior High School out of Northampton borough. Renovations and improvements approved by the previous board are shelved. Students and teachers are working under deplorable conditions in order to force us to accept a proposed new location in East Allen Township. The actions of this board are no longer acceptable.
