Photographer Vincent Laforet had a pretty sweet gig as an editorial photographer, working with top-tier publications like the New York Times, Life, Time and National Geographic. But then he transitioned to commercial video photography, working for folks like Sony, Adobe, Pepsi and Reebok. He'll be at Yale's Linsly-Chittenden Hall Monday night to talk about his career development, care of the Connecticut chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), and it'll be free thanks to their sponsor, Canon USA. Laforet will also discuss social media, his gear, new digitial technology and all that other cutting edge stuff that makes being an artist in the 2010s so much different than it was even five years ago.

Vincent Laforet Presentation

Mon., Oct. 21, 7-9 p.m. Linsly-Chittenden Hall Room #102, 63 High St., New Haven. Free. ctasmp.org.
