To help encourage both fitness and the use of technology, Bethel Middle School set up a WiiFitness room for the students to take classes in. The room consists of not only Wii Fitstations, but also Dance Dance Revolution and exercise bikes among many other things.

For over three years, the Physical Education teachers have been taking students to the Wii Fitness room for classes.  "A lot of times, kids don't even realize they're getting exercise because they have so much fun doing it." says Mr. Muharem, assistant principal of Bethel Middle School. The room was expensive, but BMS found a way to provide the cost and obtain the room by writing a grant for the Bethel Education Foundation, an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that was organized in August 2009 to help fund education projects in Bethel, Connecticut.

"We were really trying to engage the students in an activity through technology," said Mr. Muharem. The activities consist of several electronic games and devices that were created to promote fitness.

Fitness and technology are the perfect mix in helping to educate kids to reach their fitness goals.
