Here at Bunnell High School, the soccer team has accomplished something that they have been seeking for the past 37 years.  Finally, it has been done and they have won their first ever state championship since the team first formed in 1974. This is a historical feat for the entire school. Josh Poisson is a player  that was on the team. “It was extremely exciting, it was the probably the best feeling that I have ever had in my life, and it was just a great time for everyone on the team.”

Coach Ginand has coached the Bunnell Soccer team for many years and in this time, he has led the team to a state championship finals 2 times. “We game plan for every team that we face throughout the season when you have great players like freddy, and zach, and justin and sebastian and isais and all those players that we had this year, you dont need too much strategy because they're so skilled.”

With graduation almost upon them, you have to guess that the coach feels proud about his first championship win. “ I was very proud of the soccer team this year, especially after last year, we lost two games last year both the SWC Championship and the State Championship, and it was definatley a great acomplishment [to get to the championship's] without any senoirs. That was a first for the school and for these senoirs and the rest of the team to get back to both of the championships and win them that was a great feeling for them, for my assistant coaches, and meand obviously for the rest of the school community and it was just very exciting.”

The non-senior teamates are obviously very upset about their teamates leaving the school but they will still be able to play just as well. Josh Poisson stated, “It really stinks beacause their great players and we are all brothers on and off the field, so next year we just have to make do without them.” Chris Fazekes also commented, “Its not going to be as good but we have a lot of new starting players.”

With the trophy sitting proudly in the school's trophy case every player that walks by certainly feels a great sense of pride when they realize that they will be remembered as the first and only team to ever win the soccer championship for Bunnell. We asked Chris Fazekes, “We're not going to have Zach, or Freddy, or Justin but we are still going to have a quality team.”

Although the team may lose some amazing players, they will always remember their first championship win in the 2011-2012 school year.
