'Odilon Redon: Prince of Dreams, 1840-1916' (1994)
Curator Douglas Druick and his international team have at last given an intellectual basis to Redon's fantasies, tracing how they originated in the artist's loveless childhood.
(Problematic wall labels are) a small lapse in an exhibition of large significance that demands long and repeated viewings. The last time anyone anywhere saw anything that approached it was in Paris in 1957. Once having seen the present show, it is hard to imagine another on Redon that can add as much to our knowledge again.
